Overview: An amazing real Life Science program that covers life stages, food chains, decomposers, ecosystems & more - using real live arthropods and many unforgettable creepy crawlies! Outcome: Students will learn the difference between bugs and insects, know the body parts of an insect and how they grow, understand the importance of bugs and their role in the food chain and as decomposers, explore the physical attributes and various defense behaviors of bugs, and most importantly, children will have a new-found appreciation towards nature and be encouraged to explore and protect their world. Benchmarks: SC.K.L.14.3, SC.1.L.14.1, SC.1.L.16.1, SC.1.L.17.1, SC.2.L.16.1, SC.2.L.17.1, SC.2.L.17.2, SC.3.L.15.1, SC.4.L.16.3, SC.4.L.16.4, SC.4.L.17.2, SC.4.L.17.3, SC.4.L.17.4, SC.5.L.14.2, SC.5.L.17.1 Set Up: Each show is geared for no more than 30 children. The presenter will need a small table (teacher's desk size) to set up on with the children either sitting in chairs, in a large semi-circle, or the children may sit at their desks. Presentations can be done in the classroom, media center, or cafeteria and the presenter must set up and stay in one room while the children rotate between classes/groups. In some cases, weather permitting, an outdoor show can be done so long as the presenter and animals are totally out of direct sunlight. Teacher/counselor participation is required. Hint: Bring cameras to document the educational fun!! Grade Level: This presentation is highly appropriate for grades VPK, K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Shows are modified to fit grade levels.
